Rhagabir, 2011, 30" x 60" oil/panel (click img to enlarge)

It's a new year and I'm focusing on a new group of tree shapes.  This piece places the centre mass up front.  I chose reds for the foliage.  I like the way they play against the blue sky.  Each time I painting this subject (I do it often)  I find new ways to refine the technical details.  So all of these variations are also a process of small new discoveries.  These might include new color combinations or mixes, new contrasting techniques, new tools, new relationships in proportions, and so on.  I have no idea when I will stop learning new things with this series.

Makes it fun to go into the studio.
