Cootes Bay

Coote's Bay Morning, 16" x 20", oil/panel (click to enlarge)

In these two paintings I was interested in the composition.  I like the way Morandi was able to take a small selection of bottles and containers and rearrange them repeatedly as his subject matter...without ever boring us.  I can see doing the same with simple landscape motifs - a tree, water, horizon, sky.  The critical thing  is to get every element just right in terms of proportion, contrast, positioning and colour.
