In Turkey

Walking at sunrise in the olive trees, Izmir Province.

View from my apartment window in Sultanahmet, Istanbul.

New Mosque, Istanbul.

I've been visiting Turkey this October.  Staying in an apartment in Sultanahmet Istanbul, visiting amazing places, seeing wonderful things, getting new ideas for my work.

Now visiting Izmir Province and Anatolyia.

Can't wait to try out some ideas in my studio when I return.

Sunset, 48"x60", 2011, oil/panel, (click to enlarge)
Ever since my trip to New York during the summer I've been looking at marches and wetlands.  The drive from Toronto to NYC is through central NY State where I grew up.  The Erie Canal and the Finger Lakes were part of my childhood explorations.  Many bicycle hikes were made in those areas. These left an impact because now when I travel in those areas I seem to find inspiration where ever I look.

Island, 40"x40", oil/panel (click to enlarge)
This lonely crescent shaped island is located near to me.  I like the way, on calm mornings, it seems to mysteriously emerge from the mist.  The early sun reflects lazily on the calm surface of the lake.  I imagine exploring the small landmass.  What's under the trees, hiding there, looking out at me?
