Willow Pond

Willow Pond, 40" x 48", oil/panel, (click to enlarge)

Summer is winding down, yet the air today is warm and humid.  These two paintings reflect some of my visual interests as the warm season drifts into cooler times.

Weeping willows are such beautiful trees!  They express a contemplative melancholy mood.  Since I usually see them near water, I decided to paint this one at the edge of a pond.  I like the way the fronds easily sway in even a gentle breeze.  The challenge of capturing movement in trees has led me to return to a series I did a few years back - wind in the palm trees.  I've just started 4 small studies on the subject and will report back here when they are done.

Living in Ontario I am surrounded by lakes and bays.  I continue to present this subject in a recent horizontal piece.
